Sunseeker was started by Clair Marais, who opened a camping and angling store in 1977.
Later on fold up caravans were implemented. In 1978 Clair was awarded the Jurgens franchise. The business grew incredibly fast in a short period of time. Her husband John joined the business in 1981.
After a short time Sunseeker Caravans was approached by Ci Caravans to sell the Gypsey brand of caravans. The business grew and the daughters Jacky and Suzy joined the family business and it became an entire family affair.
In 1994 Sunseeker was awarded the Sprite and Gypsey franchises. Later on that year they bought the Jurgens franchise, once again laying the stepping stones of what was to come for the entire dealer network.
In 2012 Imperial formed a new division Imperial Caravan Retail - where Sunseeker Caravans - Alberton and Vaal became the first in this new venture. In December 2012 Sunseeker opened its third branch in Empangeni.
